Original Mass Effect - Question

You can equip armour/weapons in the Noramdy. The lockers are i think next to Wrex in the loading area bit. It is not really that much of a chore done this way as you will probably be going there after/before every mission anyway:)

btw Huddy, biggest tip in ME- Talk to the crew in between missions!

Like the OP I've recently started on ME, I'm at Level 15 now. One thing that really annoys me about the party selection is that (like KOTOR2) you can't access gear assigned to people not in your party. Effectively this means that if you want your active party to have the best gear (as you would), then when changing party members you have to faff about transferring over the kit. A good example would be weapon/ammo mods and maybe even the weapons themselves, you don't want your most effective weapons sat on your ship, you want them out there kicking ass. So you have to do something lame like, exit the Normandy with them in your party, unequip the gear, reenter the normandy, exit the normany again this time with your proper party, and equip the decent gear :( Right pain in the arse and I can't believe they didn't change this after KOTOR2, I know that logically if person X has been issued a suit of armour, you wouldn't expect person Y to exit the spaceship and then be able to put it on. BUT, it's not like you can't manually get that situation to happen via the method I described above. So they are forcing you to do a laborious task for the sake of continuity, with the same net result as if you could just swipe items of characters who aren't in the party.

I completely agree, it's a trait that carries through other Bioware games such as Dragon Age. Giving complete control would seem to be a no-brainer after a little playtesting, no idea why they've persevered with it for so long.

That said, I generally love their games and both Mass Effect games are ace. Played through them both on 360 though so can't comment on PC control issues. On 360 it works great, though I've actually since bought them both on PC too for a second playthrough with badass graphics as a good character - a contradiction to my first time completing it in both senses.

Stick with it. When I first got it on the xbox I gave up after 2 hours because I thought it was boring but I was given it on the PC I stuck with it and it turned out to be one of the best games I have played in a long time. I loved the second one even more so and I cant wait until the third

Thanks for the tip regarding inventory swaps, I'll give it a go - I've not actually been able to find half my party on the Normandy yet, mostly I've just been talking to the crew!

It's very much a long haul game, take you're time on it and take in as much as you can, going in with the mindset of a quick blast about type game will likely lead to you not liking it, speak to everyone after every mission and learn as much as you can about the universe, the different races and your team.

Also, the Mako can be a pain but it is worth it.
