Hi,
I got around to fitting my Noctua to my EVGA 680 a couple of days ago and have been playing about with fsb ect to see what i can get out of my e6600. At the moment its sitting @3.4 with 1.3v and idle at around 40-42 degrees.
I have been using it for most of the day like this and have run 3dmark aswell as playing some games with no apparent stability issues.
When i use Orthos to test stability it fails after about 8 mins
If it fails in Orthos would you say that the system is definately not happy despite the fact it has been running fine for most of the day? Are there any issues with running Orthos on Vista 32 bit? the version i have is 041.110.18
Cheers

All Orthos tells you is that your system isn't stable enough for running Orthos. Now you might be happy with it being stable with everything else that you use it for as Orthos is one of the toughest stress tests for CPUs and chipsets+RAM so it represents the worst case situation. Stable system? No. Stable enough for what you use it for? Maybe.

if it runs for 8mins you can probably get it completely stable for a 12hr orthos run with a slight voltage bump to 1.31-1.32

you might be able to play some games and appear ok at the moment but if you fail orthos, especially at only 8 mins, then strictly speaking the system will most likely fall over at some point in the future running more intensive applications like video encoding.

with your current voltage and temps theres nothing wrong with a voltage nudge upwards.

1.3v is very low, the majority of chips won't do 3.4Ghz at that vcore, i'm pretty sure you'll be stable at 1.325v or so and thats a really good core anyhow. I've got 2 E6600s that will do 3.4 stable at 1.3v but they're good stepping L629B cores. Also failure at 8 mins is a sign that you will most likely feel the effects of that instability at some point with something other than orthos. Fully stable rock solid operation to me is when your pc will run anything thrown at it without introducing errors not caused by the software or some other incompatability itself.

OK guys thanks for all the suggestions.
I have been adjusting the vcore upwards until i can find happy ground for stability and temps. I left Orthos running last night and all was well this morning. I had to ramp up the voltage to 3.6 to get it stable but so far so good.
So i'm now on e6600 @3.4ghz Idle temp 42 Load temp 51.
Cheers
