Hey All,

My machine freezes sometimes during game play of COD4, I thought I had it solved yesterday but today it started happening again :(

I can run Orthos on mem and cpu for a good couple of hours without issue so I dont think its CPU related, is there similar tool for me to test the BFG 8800GT.

I am using RivaTuner which is currently set at 680/1703/960, yesterday I played for hours without issue with 680/1703/980 but today it crashed after 20min :(

Any help would be great.

I am wondering if the hot spell the other day due to a jammed fan might have done some perm damage

ATI Tool would be your best bet I would think. Other than that you could use 3dMark06 or the one that tests HDR but I can't remember it's name.

Are you using Rivatuner to control your fan speeds? When I first got my 8800GT it also locked up when playing COD4. Basically because nvidia decided to only supply 29% fan power up to god knows what limit. After using Rivatuner (what a great tool), it now runs (relatively!) cool and silent even after hours of Codding and Crysising!

I have my fans on 99% and it was still crashing, temps rose to approx 80degC.

When the fan jammed I saw temps of 114degC :(

Something doesn't sound right. With my fan on 50%, temp never rises above 75C, and that's in a hot room!

I find 3dmark06 looped a few times times at 1920x1200 will often lock up or get a DirectX error on a GPU overclock even when ATItool reports no errors... I usually go for both 3dmark06 and ATITool to see if the GPU is running stable. Keep in mind though that it could be driver related. Or the particular game... I have endless problems with Bioshock crashing, yet all my other games run absolutely fine. Wonder if they'll ever patch that thing.

the crysis gpu benchmark and the gui for it seems the best for me. I find I get higher clocks with ati tool which then fall down when I put them through crysis.

Other than that, multiple loops of 3d06

yeah...turn on 16x multisampling and fleck/bump then crank up the resolution and it will roast and toast your GPU

Some clocks can be rock solid on ati tool and other things yet on certain games crash and artifact.
I had 730/1804/2000 flashed on my card passed 30 mins on ati artifact checker was crysis stable for hours everything else stable yet when i played pes2008 a few times online the whole screen went like a kaleidoscope and crashed.According to ati tool my max stable clocks are 765/1804/2000 anything above that gives yellow dots, but this clearly isn't a true stability tester it's more a rough area of max clock you can find.
I flashed mine back to 700/1750/900.
