os 4.1 iPhone update

No news on release but from playing with a few betas Game Centre makes a return and the ability to turn off spellchecking.
I wish you could add words too it -.- I've typed om before and its come up with some stupid suggestions but not on lmao

I guess you don't have a 3G. iOS4 rendered my girlfirend's 3G completely unusable. Often, the phone doesn't respond to a phonecall until it goes to voicemail it's so slow. Fancy writing an email? Just launch the app, and fingers crossed it'll be good to go in 2 minutes!
Received a text notification? Just swipe the lockscreen.. swipe it again.. swiiiiiiiiiiiiiipe.. ah, there we go, fourth swipe and it responds! More than one page of apps? Enjoy page transitions at a silky smooth 2 frames a second!

Yeah 4.0 does run like a bag of nails on the 3G, smooth as silk on my IP4 tho lol
You can make adjustments to make it run good on the 3G you know ?

my 3g since putting 4 on has now been sitting on my desk gathering dust. But i will try and disable spot light and see where that gets me.

Once I had a phone call, swiped no responce. Missed the call and it wen to voicemail. I then spoke to the person that rang me on my HD2 and they said they could hear me cursing and swearing at the phone lol.

When I bought a 32gb iPhone 4, I gave the 16gb 3G to the gf and with 4.01 its running great even with spotlight on, we turned it off no idea if its even faster or not but certaintly saw no drop in speed from 3.xx.

It's weird, so far I've not heard of anyone with a 16Gb 3G having iOS4 problems. Mine's (well, my girlfriend's now) is a 16Gb, might try updating it.

Do you get fast app switching (save state) on the 3G, or is that counted as a "multitasking" feature?

I have a 3G 16Gb and just downgraded tonight to 3.1.2. I was using 4.0.1 and it's just far to slow to respond texting is a nightmare and trying to answer calls just glad there is such a thing as voice mail. I turned off all the spotlight features and still no change. I then proceeded to jailbreak it and removed all the languages and a few launchdeamons, it did give it a small speed boost but nothing major. Just browsing safari with 50mb of free memory to start dropped to 1mb for me with 3 tabs open. I am
going to be upgrading to a iPhone 4 in few weeks and mould this into my car and use it as a stereo/satnav but all on 3.1.2. Apple really should not of brought this out for the 3G, maybe there will be some improvment in 4.1? Who knows, hopfully

That's the 8/16Gb theory blown out of the water then!

I think my 3G 16Gb has just died. Tried to upgrade last night to latest release of os4 (previously on os4) and it now does nothing - iTunes just hanging while trying to restore software. Since upgrading to os4 this phone has been a nightmare. May now be forced to go out and buy an iPhone 4.

All these people who say they'll buy/have bought an iPhone4 because iOS4 was too slow on a 3G are just crazy - if I were to get a new phone now, I just wouldn't buy an iPhone. What's to stop the next iOS update making the iPhone4 unusable? I'd rather buy from a manufacturer that tests software thouroughly and correctly before releasing it!

I completely wiped my g/f's 3G last night, and set it up as new without a backup restore - it seems massively quicker than it was, but no-where near the spead of 3.1.3 - and for all I know, it'll just slow down again once it's been loaded up with emails/apps/msgs like before.

Thing is the 3G getting the update was mearly to stop 3G owners complaining that they had already been left in the dark.

The 3G shouldn't have got the update at all to be honest, or the 2G should have got it as they are the same hardware bar 3G and GPS.

I think it's more of a case that you 3G owners have actually got an update instead of being left behind like the 2G would have been if I was on the software dev team!!

[Although in that scenario i'd keep security updates coming for the 2G/3G/iPod Touch 1G]

Completely off topic, but how are you planning on doing this? I've had this idea before but i've no idea how to do it, some more information would be fantastic :)

my 3g 8 runs allright on OS4, nothing special but not as slow as some people are experiencing.
