OS and memory upgrades

I think it depends on the bits. IIRC, 32 bit = 4GB RAM max and 64bit = 8GB (possibly 16?) RAM max. Something like that. I believe it's more to do with how much the processor can address rather than the OS (someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not expert on this).

Windows NT 4.0: 4 GB
Windows 2000 Professional: 4 GB
Windows 2000 Standard Server: 4 GB
Windows 2000 Advanced Server: 8GB
Windows 2000 Datacenter Server: 32GB
Windows XP Professional: 4 GB
Windows Server 2003 Web Edition: 2 GB
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition: 4 GB
Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition: 32 GB
Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition: 64 GB

Note that in practice I think WinXP has trouble addressing the full 4gig of RAM and it works out as effectively being 3.5gig or something like that.
