Please be gentle with me on this one

lets say i install my o/s on c drive and all other games, software on d drive. lets say c drive has heart failure and i need to reformat it, will i need to reinstall everything that is also on d drive or will it continue to function correctly once the c drive is revived?

thanks

the reason i ask this is because often i see folders on the c drive for various items even whrn they are installed to the d drive.

You would need to reinstall the software again as there would be no link between Windows and the applications.

Games are easy as you just install the launcher again and point to where it is in the application.

I Have steam and games all installed on a D drive and If I need to re install Windows I can easily and then just re create the steam shortcut without any issues.

All of my games are stored on another partition, I have a 1TB Samsung 970 Evo nvme drive with 120gb for c drive and the rest is the d drive.

It all depends on the software your installing too as origin needs to be re installed even thought its installed on d but steam doesn't

Most games will survive a fresh OS install, most applications won't as they rely on various other files, registry entries etc. You're better off installing applications to the same drive as your OS, especially if that's the fastest drive in your system.
