Hi,

I am wondering if it is wroth buying a SSD for my OS! is that better that buying a standard hard drive? Will I see improvements?

Thoughts?

Lee

you would see a mass improvement if you was to install your os on an ssd, i would recomned os on an ssd and a normal hdd for programs, music data ect

Agree with all the above, I bought an OCZ Vertex 2E 60Gb SSD a few weeks back and it brought my boot times right down!

Windows is usable as soon as you are onto the desktop; you dont have to continue to wait for it to load services and other startup programs before you can use the pc.

Great purchase.

Agree totally with above, SSD's for OS is great. Just look at the windows boot time thread, all those running SSD's are so quick. Also as soon as you are at the desktop everything is running already. I don't think I could go back to an OS on a HDD now.

Wicked,

Looks like i will be buying a SSD! Thought that it would help with load/boot times ! Can't wait to get windows 7 on one YAY!

The only thing I hate is that it takes such a long time for the BIOS to start and load Windows. Once thats done, its amazingly quick! 14 seconds to load Windows and all its programs.

The annoying thing about having a smaller boot drive is that many games these days seem to put saves on C:\ somewhere. I'm sure I tried moving my home dir through control panel at some point in the past but it made no difference... :S Unless I was just being retarded and did it wrong.

I'm toying with going for 2 SSDs, one OS and another for games that do tonnes of HDD reading (area loading etc). Hard to justify the cost with Christmas approaching, though. :(

Agree about bios,i dont think ssds make that difference to bios but they do once windows has got going.

@Pianobasher: You could get 2 (or 1 bigger drive as i think would be cheaper.). In terms of the saves for games,if you can find them could you not use a directory link (not called this but name escapes me at the moment) where it anything that is saved in that folder is actuallg saved in another folder. It was being done with the f1 2010 replay file and im sure someone who can remember will post its correct name.

edit: symbolic link is what ifs called. Would that not sort it out as the file shows up on ssd but is actually stored on another drive e.g. your normal hdd.
