OS recomendations and thoughts please?

umm, maybe your views are true then when microsoft stop supporting XP, bandwagon no seeing as i have XP Pro SP2 32-bit, and Vista Uiltimate 64-bit, yet i choose XP over this, yes maybe your right im on the xp bandwagon, infact now your talking about it, im just going to install delphi 1 on my new windows 3.1 OS!

Some people seemed to have swayed on this thread. Seems to have become a "vista needs support" thread. If the OP still has a fully working/legal xp license then he should just stick with that. Vista has improved since the pre-sp1 days, but if you already have an xp license it's not worth the cost imo. Driver support is better on Vista x64 than XP x64, but only upgrade if you have problems...

Oh god, not more people with there stuck in the past bandwagon XP views.

Get vista 64bit, it flys and is very stable on a new pc. You wont regret it.
I agree.

I had to replace my old PC a few weeks ago as it was coming to the end of it's life after 7 years of heavy use.

I was initially put off Vista because of all the negative feedback about Vista being a resource hog, bloatware, annoying, Windows ME mark 2, etc.

I was tempted to stick with XP but decided against it as it's coming to the end of it's life (although XP has been an excellent O/S for me over the last 7 years)

I finally decided to go for the 64-bit version of Vista Home Premium and am very pleased that I did as it's stable and just as fast as XP

i never said it was bloated, i merely suggested xp because a lot of people get vista and it uses more bells and whistles then they might need.

It is a good operating system, but me personally and talking to many other senior people suggest xp, for its compatiblity alone is a good thing to have.

It depends on his use, im advising based on what i think, im not on the XP bandwagon as i have both Operating Systems yet I choose XP, its just what i think.

If i was stuck on the XP bandwagon, do you think i would have spent over £900 on building my pc (custom built), that can run vista perfect, but i chose XP instead? No, i use XP because for me it has performance gains in certain areas, is more compatible and overall a better environment to work in for me
