When you goto the apple store and have a play about with the luurrverrrley macs instore some of them have these set of four or so icons in the middle of the desktop. What is that and how do I enable it?

Thanks.

Arf, no. They were always sat in the middle of the desktop like this:

They are part of a program that is set up in the Apple stores. They are used to call an assistant to you or let you set up a appointment with a Mac Genius etc etc. You cannot get it for your Mac at home (as far as I know). It is just installed on the computers in the stores.

Is it really? I'm sure they had like shortcuts to the address book and calender and stuff, could have been wrong. Meh. It's not on the apple site. Will have to take another trek to the apple store to see it again for myself.

Yep, it's an Apple Store thing only I'm afraid.

It's basically a quick menu for the Store's Concierge (appointment system), Store events and other things - you can't download it / buy it.

Not that I have noticed yet, I will be having a further play but not really expecting anything amazing.

Not really, I was just intrigued and wanted a play. I think I prefer my dock by a country mile.

It does have some placement options though. It doesn't just sit there and not move.

Have a play with it!

I don't have a Mc yet :( not long until WWDC though :)

Ahhh, Yeah. Just read the little bit about new MBP's and iMacs!

I'll be tempted by an iMac to go with my MacBook if they're worth it! :D

MacBook Pros and iMacs

"While there may be rumors of an iPhone launch at WWDC, we expect Apple will host a separate event in late June to launch the device. But Apple will not fail to deliver new products at WWDC," he wrote. "Apple has announced that a full-featured version of OSX 10.5 Leopard will be demonstrated and handed out at the event. This means that we will finally see how Apple will integrate Windows operability into Leopard."

Munster added that he "expects" new MacBook Pros (1, 2) to make a showing at the developer conference and that it's "also possible" that Apple will introduce a redesigned iMac. He notes that on average, the Cupertino-based company has updated its professional notebooks every 182 days, with the most recent generation having launched 209 days ago. Similarly, he said, iMacs have traditionally seen updates every 168 days but the current generation is now a whopping 257 days old.
