OS X Lion and active window issues

This is for a colleague and is a strange one.

I am trying to help them with remote connection but upon clicking a preview window it comes to the foreground for a moment before jumping into the background.

This results in me being unable to use the file edit etc menus.

Apparently it happens in other programs as well (Word etc).

I have googled but I can't describe the problem accurately enough and my search has hit a brick wall!

If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it.

Hey dude, I assume if you try it in another user account it doesn't happen there?

Might be worth using a different set of peripherals incase there is a stuck key or keys that are causing the problem...

Failing that, the ol' PMU and PRAM reset are worth a shot as well...just in case.
