Here's the deal. I downloaded a few midi files that I was wanting to dissect for ideas (Found Here - Old school :D). They playback fine in safari. However, once I download them I begin to have issues. Playing back with quicktime results in some of the instruments not being played. Putting them into Garageband (V3) also seems to result in missing tracks (based on how it played in safari). For a few it came up with "too complex" errors. Caverns is a good example.

So, it plays fine in the quicktime plugin in safari, but not in quicktime player nor garageband. Google was useless as well. Any ideas?

I don't think that VLC would do as well as a dedicated MIDI player with a load of instruments. Though I haven't used it personally, a quick Google search revealed Rondo. It might be worth a shot.
