Good afternoon to all,
I'm currently in the process of putting together a Windows 98 PC based on my old AMD Duron CPU that I still have after 20-odd years. I'll be using a Geforce 2 TI to start with but hopefully I'll get my hands on a Kyro 2 at some point. Both have VGA outputs.
My issue is, of course, the monitor. I simply don't have the room to get an old CRT. And buying a 4:3 LCD would present a pain as well in terms of space.
If at all possible I would like to use my main PC monitor, which is LG 27GL850 at 2560x1440. I've spent the best part of today looking around at various solutions and different upscalers/converters etc..but I'm just not sure honestly.
I imagine that I'd want to use something like 800x600 on the Win98 PC. I was messing around and found that my monitor has an option to display 4:3 to match the incoming signal so am I right in assuming that I could use an OSSC as the go between to not only convert from VGA to HDMI, but to also perhaps upscale from 800x600 to 1600x1200? Would that then stretch out to fill the monitor or would the OSSC introduce black bars at the side and above/below?
I also came across this device: Extron RGB-HDMI 300 A. I found it reveiwed on a retro based site. It seems like it would do the job but I've seen users reporting that it introduces lag and is quite finicky to get working correctly.
I'm at a bit of a loss. Any help would be great!
Cheers.
