Anyone else on here been trying out the alpha for this game, only been playing a few days but i'm absolutely loving it, seems a lot more dynamic than other city/town building games.

Still in alpha so the game isn't perfect yet and lots more content yet to be introduced into the game but looks to have great potential.

Some video footage for those who don't know the game:

Haha yeah that is always a risk I guess, particularly as so many games have failed to live up to expectations recently. However, for a first alpha release it seems pretty smooth and stable to me and quite playable :-)

Banished is great but as others have said development seems to have slowed right down. I also much prefer the no grid, free placement mechanics of Ostriv, gives the town a much more natural feel to them.

I was looking for an Ostriv dedicated forum at Steam but apparently that has not been 'settled' yet. It comes with a nice but brief readme, a lot of questions remain. I managed to keep my citizens from seeking their luck elsewhere during the winter ( i was actually waiting for them to go skating... ), got the food going and even have new settlers coming in at regular basis. Up to 120 inhabitants sofar. But now they start whining about having no money....

@ Evoloz: do you experience that too and if so found out what the best way is to remedy ? I do have a town hall so i can probabely regulate economics but haven't tried that yet. I could f.i. upgrade wages or lower rent but balance is already in the red... No money to visit the other towns anymore neither...

Btw, i really love this game, even if it's in Alpha stage. The love that the dev has for his brainchild shines thru in every detail, and there's LOTS of that already !

Btw(2), what's up with the Sopranos around here ??....

cheers,
jan

Yeah since it still alpha its not really fully available on steam yet, I think its just classed as green light but not available. Yes the game is certainly a bit lacking on tutorial/ instructions but then I guess it is alpha 1 i'm sure they'll be a better tutorial before its released.

The finances are a little tough to manage I find, yeah you can increases wages and lower rent to increase the wealth of your citizens. But as you say you then run out of money as the government. I find dedicating a whole farm to growing sunflowers, to convert into oil and then selling via trade a good way to bring in money, you can then afford to pay your citizens more, lower rent etc.

Yes it can be a bit of a hand full at first getting started and getting a strong economy going, took me a few attempts to get it. As for sunflowers they are very ground intensive so after growing for a year you will need to let the field be fallow/ empty for a year. I have one farm with 4 fields two growing and two fallow each year.

Yes hopefully thinks like citizen behavior and AI will improve as the game develops further.
