Hi all...I am moving to Oswestry soon and have been reading that the broadband is very slow.....Anyone here live near there or know what I can expect...use it for gaming mostly but download stuff now and again

thanks in advance.

Assuming you are connected to the Owestry exchange, you should be able to get C&W, Talktalk or Sky LLU: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WNOSW

So, I would suggest looking at C&W (Xilo.net resell this) or Sky - in terms of capacity these two are fairly solid, so getting data to and from the exchange shouldn't be a problem.

As for the quality of the line between you and the exchange, you might be out of luck and get a bleak phone line. That being said, there might well be FTTC available soon, which would mitigate that problem tremendously.

So, well, your only real risk is if you move far from the exchange, have a cruddy phone line & FTTC doesn't come to your street.

Thx

The house is 3.75 km from the exchange near a village called whittington...so I think i am going to struggle to get more than half a meg.....**** for downloads but will it be ok for gaming online?

Most games don't need raw speed, more low jitter and latency (ping). The flight exception is big bf3 servers which might need more than half a mbit. I'd let us know the outcome of the five search before we try to choose a suitable isp.

here it is

OSWESTRY, on Exchange OSWESTRY

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your address indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 512Kbps. However, due to the length of your line, an engineer visit may be required, who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 1.5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1Mbps and 2.5Mbps.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 2Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1Mbps and 3.5Mbps.

The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.

If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.

Thank you for your interest.

Please note that postcode and address check results are indicative only. Most accurate results can be obtained from a telephone number check
.

I am currently with plusnet....could i transfer over to new address or have I got to go with bt to get better speeds
