What a horrible combination! I have a MBP for work and to be fair I quite like it for most things. However I have Office 2011 and although I can struggle along with Outlook, I'm having real problems with Excel. Every time I do anything apart from typing in a sheet (such as inserting a column) I get the spinning colour wheel of death for about 30secs before I can do anything. I'm trying to compare info from one sheet to another and each time I switch sheets it does the same. It's absolutely horrendous. I'm not doing anything strenuous, just comparing lists of people!

I spoke to our IT team and was trying to see if I could update or anything but it doesn't look like it. I'm one of the few users on Mac in the whole company.

Is this a known issue? The sheets I'm loading were tiny really, less than 500kb so it's not the size of them. Anything I can do? :(

What version of OSX are you running?

If it's El Capitan (10.11), then firstly make sure you've updated to 10.11.1 and similarly updated Office 2011 to, at least, 14.5.6 (latest updated is 14.5.8 which includes a few vulnerability fixes) which included a number of stability fixes - both of the these should sort a lot of the issues with Office 2011 hanging under Capitan.

Interestingly I've tried it again with the Activity Monitor running. Excel actually turns red and says 'not responding' when it hangs. What on earth is going on
