Finder is rubbish, sorry - but it is... Its a chore to move and manipulate files at the level I want to.

Are there any other alternative file system tools / software for mac os x ? ya know like ones that enable you to right click and create new files? :p

Hey

http://www.cocoatech.com/ - Path Finder.

Merlin Mann raves about it on MacBreak - says it does all the things he wishes Finder would do.

Unfortunately it isn't free but there is a demo there available to see if you like it and if it's what you want - looks like it is only about £18.

Hope this helps!

I couldn't agree more. Finder is the bane of MacOS. It was easier to manipulate files in File Manager on Windows 3.

Pathfinder is definitely the most popular replacement, also have a look at Liquifile, which takes a bit of getting used to.

I just wish you could integrate it more into the system - completely removing the Finder and using Path Finder on its own.

Apple have a history of buying up good 3rd party apps to use as their own, hopefully we'll see something like this in System 10.5 or later.

Learn some scripting and open up a terminal.
Tis the only way to really control and maipulate your files and directories
