I have an ottoman bed with two storage sections, I can lift and lower the mattress to get to the storage but my wife can't. The bed has 4 gas powered cylinders but I'm looking to retrofit some kind of powered lifting mechanism. I've trawled the web but come up with very little except one firm in the far east Danaier who seem to manufacture one device, which is not shown on their web site, I've tried contacting the firm but without much luck.

I can buy a linear piston motor to mount in the base but I am limited to the stroke because the base is only just over 8 inches deep which limits the stroke movement to 4 inches.

I think this must be a problem for many people who buy ottoman beds, I've tried talking to distributors of such beds but quite frankly they've shown little interest.

Has anyone any ideas? Thank you for reading this

We have a kingsize ottoman bed from dreams and the bed is quite heavy to lift but I guess you would want it to be sturdy. My advice would be to sort out your storage and place any items under the bed that won’t need to be accessed very often such as winter clothing in the summer etc.

Try adjusting the screw/ nut at bottom of the piston, probably needs loosening a bit.

If you can't adjust it. How old is your mattress? If it needs replacing soon you could replace it with a heavier one or buy a mattress topper, the extra weight might be just enough to make it easier to lower.
