Well I gave birth 4 weeks ago, and he was 9 pound 14 and that was painful enough!!

I'd say it was definitely due to his mother's diabetes. It causes large babies which are profoundly hypoglycaemic when they are born, hence the IV glucose. The Guinness Book of Records one probably lapsed into a hypoglycaemic coma and died, I can't imagine hasty administration of IV glucose solution in 1879.
