Out of 10, how good is this pc performance/price wise?

It seems a great build , however if i was putting together a new budget build now i'd go for an AM3 dual core or an i5 build if the budget would allow for the extra. That way you have something that is current and doesn't cause too much hassle to upgrade e.g. with the AM3 you could eventually upgrade to a quad or even a six core cpu in future without having to change everything. The build there is AM2+ and has ddr2 memory which (although good for now) will start to show its age in a year or so.

If building now id avoid AM2+ and skt775 and go either AM3 or i5, the price difference between the new tech and old tech seems to have closed together more now so it makes sense to do this. If i were you i'd go for an overclocked AM3 dual build- it will do everything you want now and gives you great price/performance and future upgradability.

looks like maybe a 5 or 6.

for a 10, you're looking at an i7 920-975, overclocked to 4ghz, 2x gtx 285/295, or 2x 5870, 6gb ram
9 maybe =, i7, overclocked to 3.6-3.8, 5870 or 285/295, 3-6gb ram
8= i7, overclocked, 260/275, 4870/4870x2
7= any quad core, q9550 or there about, or an i5 maybe? 4850/4870 or 260, 3gb

its a good mid range pc, you'll be able to play most games and some of the newer games with medium to high settings with decent framerates.

what will you do with it mainly?
games,photoshop, video encoding?

Where do the am3 x4s come in with your grading system? Just interested :)

i have no idea :P

i've been an intel guy for a long time, so i'm not sure what amd performance is like now.

the latest phenoms are supposed to be around the q9000's i believe, but behind the i7's.

if i had to guess, i'd say they were 6-7 out of 10? with a 4870 or 250/260

with a 5870 or 285 you could be looking at maybe an 8 with them?

if he's looking at gaming, a good graphics card would always bring the score up, most modern cpu's are fairly decent, its the gpus that make the most difference now.

bear in mind that 6-7 is still very good, where anything below would be dual core, 9800gt etc etc, some decent mid range stuff.

Yeh that sums up the current hardware pretty well :) but yeh look at getting a good gpu for gaming (more so than the cpu) and couple it with an am3 or i5 cpu. i7 can be a bit unnecessary when it comes down to gaming and therefore an unnecessary expense so just put that money towards the gpu.

Well thanks for the input guys.

My budget is about £400 and i'll mostly be using it for gaming, the reviews on that pc make it look awesome though
