Rite, ive decided now, im going Tft as i have some money, rather than getting another 19" CRT...

One question, does the native res of TFT's cause any problems at all? While playing games, in say lower resoloutions?

Ok, the 3 monitors im choosing between are:

1.)Hyundai ImageQuest Q90U 19" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black (MO-036-HY)

2.)Samsung SM-930BF 19" LCD Monitor - Silver/Black (MO-029-SA) (possibly 940BF, probably not tho)

and

3.)Viewsonic VX922 19" LCD Monitor - Black/Silver (MO-046-VS)

Im leaning towards the Hyundai, im basically going to be gaming, general computer use (messenger, web surfing etc) and the odd dvd every so many months :P

The Hyundai is also on offer, so id like to order one this week, if not tonight if possible :)

All info im basing this on is from 'TFT Central'

Regards.

the viewsonic is best for games as it has the fastest response

Yeah, well if you browse through that link i gave up top....It says the Viewsonic is better at keeping to a low latencey (ie 4 ms etc)
The Hyundai is better at observed responsiveness, but only just, however they say the viewsonic, samsung and hyundai are basically all the same.

Then it goes on to say if your into gaming, your going to have a hard time choosing between the Tn film panels, Basically i think im not getting the Samsung, as theyve apparently implemented the Overdrive a bid differently making it "worse" than the other panels....But i believe the Viewsonic is a better all rounder? And maybe better at games? Any help is appreciated...

Which would you go for? :S

Then, again, i really dont know if i want a Crt or not still, i game, so i want my games to look as good as possible, without being stuck in one resoloution :S

Does going down passed the native res of a 19" tft change the quality that much? :S Or am i better off getting another Crt, bearing in mind Space isnt really an issue.

I think you would find it very hard to tell any real difference between those three models in terms of responsiveness. They all offer very good gaming performance, and are about as fast as you can get right now. You are right about the Samsung models though as Samsung have not done the best job controlling the application of overdrive on their TN Film panels. As such, it can lead to white halos around moving objects and also accentuation of noise in movie playback. The overdrive control on the Viewsonic VX922 is much more well controlled and is a very good screen as well.

I'd say the main thing which might let the VX922 down is it's lack of functionality, it has tilt, but no other adjustments to the stand. The Hyundai is a little more flexibale but i suppose none of these are really that versatile when it comes to adjustements. BeHardware rated the Q90U with the slight edge, but since it uses a Samsung panel, you may find it is not quite as suitable in movies as the VX922. These are all very slight differences though, just trying to help seperate the 3 out a bit for you :)

Hmz, i believe im going to get the VS vx922....Or am i better getting the Hyundai? Its on offer thats all, ive read the hyundai and vx922 are both good in gaming...Theoretically, should i shell the extra on the Viewsonic? I can get it for a price not far off the Hyundai, But the Hyundai is infact more expensive normally...im ordering tonight, so yeah, i need to decide :P VS vx922 or Hyundai for gaming....And a film once in a blue moon...and lots of web viewing :P

i would go with the VX922 if it were me. Very good screen, well controlled overdrive and some of the fastest, if not THE fastest pixel response times in the industry at the moment.

Brilliant, sorry for making you jump from thread to thread :P Takes me a while to spend my money, dont like to spend it on stuff im not sure of thats all :)

Thanks for the help, ill try and reply here and say how it is :)

lol, im hopping all over the place too. Let's keep it in the other one shall we? :)

Muwahaha, just received my viewsonic, and guess what...

Its got a nice RED pixel on it ;) Very charming...or half pixel or whatever, tehres a red dot on it lol....

Any way of gettting rid of it? Or will i have to "try" and get it replaced...

Reply if you can :S

you can try gently flicking it and massaging it as well as running some fast paced games on it. If it's just a lazy sub pixel you might have some luck :)

Heh, games like what, and for how long, dont fancy flicking it tho....Ive just played a quick go on a racing game...Quick and colours are changing softly...Its annoying, i knew this would happen, its my luck lol :P

Any other ideas? Also what type of cloth exactly? And do u think i have any chances of getting a replacement...As it isnt a full dead pixel:( BAH :P

try not to panic :) Just a lense cleaner or something you can use to massage the pixel area. gentl flicking is fine too, can sometimes help. You can use the dead pixel buddy program in the sticky which can be set to cycle through colours rapidly for periods of time. You could leave that running ensuring the screen stays on :) but playing games i more fun. The idea is to get the pixel to change as much as possible, so any moving scene is good really.

Hmz...Well ive got the pixel buddy program, but how do you make it change colours more than 1 second at a time? As i mite leave it on while i go out tonight...ive tried flicking it slightely...but to no avail as i dont fancy making it worse lol :P

Yeah, im not panicing...its just ive spent £200 odd quid and yea, its naffed slightely :P And it will be annoying lol, played a quick go on fear...Oooooh sniper dot!!, oh wait no no just the pixel ;)

i could have swarn that prog let you do a really fast change, but can't see it there myself now. Maybe just leave some screensaver running or a movie while you go out, that would be just as good really.

Well..i left the pixel buddy program running all night, and a sound track runnning with visulisations running, but still lazy pixel is there...

I might try ringing the e-tailor tomoz morn, to see what the verdict is....

But seriously....£200 odd, for a product with VISABLE fault, wtf tbh?

it's just something you have to live with with TFT's i'm afraid, you might be able to return it to the etailer under the distance selling act. Read the section about dead pixels in the sticky which has more info :)
