hi guys, the other day i was transfering my vids and pictures from my camcorder to my pc.
the pics were fine but when it came to doin the vids there was 5Gb to be transfered and it kept stoping every Gb or so and error saying out of memory and had to use task manager to restart my pc.

any one know why this would be hapening?

vista 32bit Sp2
q6600 3gig
80Gb free hdd 250Gb in total
4Gb ram
8800gts 512mb

i got all the files done but it just took me longer as i had to keep restarting my pc.

any info would be cool

cheers

could try running chkdsk from the command prompt to see if the drive is reporting free space incorrectly

but the stuff went on eventually it was just annoying having to keep looking at pc then to restart it and continue.

thanks for moving didnt know where to post it and as it said memory thought that good :D

after i ran that chkdsk how do i find the results?

thanks

Out of memory points to the RAM. What software were you using to transfer the files? Windows explorer or some third party software?

yes thats what i thought, thought it was just crap vista and my memory runing at 890mhz its the new blade series from ocz.

would love to get some info on why it was doing it though just puzzled me

Wth 4gig of ram installed!

I had a curious case of the memory hog the other week and it turned out to be a bug in the media player software that was dumping podcasts into main memory as they were being downloaded automatically in the background.

Doesn't look like this is the problem in this instance, but was worth an ask.

if i right click on properties on my computer it says 4Gb. and all my paging is set to automatic by windows as i dont know much about them.

i had task manager up on 1 instance and the ram was only about 2Gb usage
