After spending the past few months thinking about it. I've finnally decided to sell my car. I'm currently at uni which means I don't really have the money for petrol, parts or insurance so my Corsa sxi now sits at home, 100 miles away, on my driveway. If I leave it any longer then the value is just going to fall and fall.

Anyway, I still want to get about so i'm thinking about using the money from the sale, getting some lessons over the summer and getting a bike instead.

Any ideas how much I will save, in terms of insurance / petrol (if any). I'm currently paying £1500 on my car and it should drop to about £900 - £1000 this year. As i'm sure many of you will know, the corsa can be a bit thirsty on the motorway and because I do drive a lot at home, it all mounts up. Also, any idea on a first bike. I'm fairly comfotable riding bikes and I would like something that has a bit of go to it.

Cheers

Well i'm 19 so it would have to be a 125. Once I reach 21 I can then decide to go back to the car with cheaper insurance or go for a more powerfull bike :)

I suppose it depends on what job i manage to get after uni.

If you do your full test and want to save money you could buy something like a Kawasaki GPZ 500 and restrict it for the next two years. Just an idea as I know from personal experience how boring 125's get.

Yea, that might be a plan. I was looking at a DT125RE tho, see I live up in the welsh 'vaaaallliiieesss' at the moment so lots of mountain bike / motocross tracks to have a go on.

Any good insurance companies???

Well its a toss up between the Yamaha DT125RE or the Aprilia_rs125.

To be honest, I drive because I love to drive, it's as simple as that and the Aprilia sounds fun and looks the part, I'm only ever going to use it to get between places around here and I only live 10 mins from the university.

Then again offroading is good fun :)

Whats motorway driving like on a 125?
