Out of range display

My PC keeps booting up in a resollution that is out of range for the monitor so I cant actually see where to click to revert it back - how do I change it back from booting up? I know it's easy, I've forgotten how

I would have thought you will need to change it in your drivers rather than an option on the screen itself?

Well it was fine up to 1600 x 900 then the system crashed and restarted in that resolution but artifacts are scrolling across the screen. I would have thought the system would have reverted back to the old setting
