out of the frying pan and into the fire... help please!?

Recently sold an 8800gtx due to driver issues on vista 64.

Have bought a x1950xt 256mb (sapphire) for now.

Installed it, booted into safe mode, uninstalled nvidia, run driver cleaner pro.

downloaded Catalyst 9.3 for vista 64.

Come to install it and it wont install, says "Failed to load detection driver" and stops.

So ive gone from bad nvidia drivers to non existant it ones. /fail.

Any ideas what I can do ? my case is dust free and my psu is a corsair 620w.

I think you need to get 9.2 since 9.3 doesnt support any lower than 2 series? (I could be wrong)

Correct, even though the ATI site says 9.3's are for the R580..... Odd!

Luckily ATI have older versions of the drivers for you to use.

Installed 9.3s recently (went from 8.12), seems happy enough on my X1950 Pro AGP Stable and no issues so far.

Doh!

You can't even install programs in safe mode, that's the problem, nothing will run setup.

Well at least that's what's happened when I've tried it.
