Out of the loop - looking for a system for some media/gaming.

Hey,

I've had a laptop for the last 3 or so years and before that my last PC was an AMD Athlon 3200xp

I'm looking to pick up some parts over the next few months, so therefore it's not essential that it is all the latest gear.


Looking for something for media and gaming, so needs to cope with HD films and some of the latest releases.

Budget would be around £500 with the idea of spending ~£150-200 a month over the next 3 months and slowly build it.

Any specs or build recommendations?

Whilst you can do it this way (over a few monthhs) you'd be better just saving your money and buying it all in one go, in 3 months, if you start buying bits now then chances are by the time you've got everything ready to put together what you've bought now could be had for less, meaning youve wasted a bit of your budget.
For ideas on what to look at, theres a thread in my sig or at top of page with a few builds of different budgets, obviously youll be looking somewhere between the 4 and 700 pound builds, but chances are in 3 months youll be able to get very near the 700 build with your 500 quid.

like the guy above said, its better to buy it all at once, you could do it on finance or soemthing, ocuk have 12months free intrest i think.

Hey, thanks for the tips. Didn't really think straight, I think I was just liking the idea of seeing it slowly take form. But like you said, I may aswell save it - who knows - I might not want to spend it on that when the time comes! I'll take a look at the thread when I get on my laptop, thanks again.
