Hi

Just got myself a new PC, first since my 3.4Ghz Pentium 4 and 6800 Ultra.

Have a 980ti coming Friday, but realised I've neglected to get any games. What games would you recommend, looking for good graphics and gameplay :)

Thanks for your help.

Wow you got many many many years worth of great fantastic titles to get through! way to many to list.

Depends what sort of game you like?

Few to look at:

GTA V
Alien Isolation
Farcry 4
Witcher 1/2/3
DiRT Rally
Project CARS
Mortal Kombat X
Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition
Resident Evil Remastered/RE4/5/6
Crysis 1/2/3
Battlefield 3/4

Just to name a small few..

Open up Steam, have a browse. And pick a game you think looks good. Do a tiny bit of research, like watching a gameplay video or something to check it out.

+1 for just browsing Steam, any other suggestions as to what you've missed are going to be huge depending on your tastes, may aswell just suggest everything since 2007 :D

Friendly heads up, make sure if you are on a new build to double check for promotion codes.
The newer GTX nvidia cards were shipping with Metal Gear Solid : Phantom pain codes (due out in a few weeks)
I think intel were giving away game codes/vouchers with some of their cpus as well but someone will need to confirm wether they are still.

Might help to know what sort of stuff you were into whenever you gamed last (any platform)

Steam is good for just browsing whats out there but make sure you shop around as they are over priced
Worth bookmarking the pc game deals thread in this sub forum and checking once in a while as some crazy deals turn up there

Good luck

Witcher 3 (and the other 2 if you've not played)
Alien Isolation
Wolfenstein and the expansion
GTA 5

All Great games.

Honestly, just have a browse around Steam or GoG. There are tons of good games out there that don't ever pop up in these lists.

Saying that....if you've not played Bioshock Infinite....you should ;)

Trouble is there is also a lot of rubbish on Steam and GoG too. With a 980Ti, I would recommend games that can show you what your computer can do.

GTAV
Witcher 3
Farcry 4
Alien Isolation
Ryse: Son of Rome
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition
Battlefield 4 single player
Crysis 3
Modded Skyrim (if you can be bothered)
Dying Light
CoD AW single player (on ultra the texture detail is fantastic).
Metro Last Light Redux

That should be enough to get you started :)

Given how long its been since you have been in the loop. You have missed out on many many games. Portal 1 + 2, World of Warcraft + expansions. Witcher 1-3. Skyrim, Fallout 3 +New Vegas to name a very small few.

What kind of genre do you prefer? Your new rig will be able to run anything you can throw at it, but its been so long since you have been into gaming, it is hard to pick specific things for you to try, everything is going to be a new experience.

Thanks for the suggestions, It's quite funny as some games (like Oblivion) i shelved as it looked terrible on the 6800! So have a backlog of 2007 games still... So may skip that and go to Skyrim with Mods.

Will pick up the new GTA, is 4 worth picking up as well? Seen the screenshots look incredible.

On the Playstation its just been the general games, just not really had too much chance to play.

With the genres, not too sure, back in the day it was a lot of Counterstrike Source and Morrowind.

Some top titles ive picked up on pc over the years

Battlefield 4
crysis 3
Hitman Absolution
Metro Last Light
Shadow of Mordor
GTA V
Witcher 3
The Walking Dead season 1 and 2
Portal 2
Fallout 3 / New vegas
Saints Row IV
Farcry 3
Monkey island 1 and 2 remastered
Max Payne 3
Left 4 dead 2

Some games I don't recommend, but this is my opinion from playing them

Skyrim (unless modded) - For me unplayable without modded, what a mess of a game.
Call of duty AW - Awful
Aliens Colonial Marines - The worst "AAA" so called, game ive ever played.
The crew
Watchdogs

Like others have said have a look through steam/Origin, there's many good and bad games. You have picked the right card anyway, the 980ti's are superb.

Borderlands 2
Dark Souls 2
Diablo 3
Dying Light
Far Cry Series
Heroes of the Storm
Metro Last Light
Project Cars
Tomb Raider

There's a ton of smaller titles well worth a look as well.

For me, GTA 4 was the weakest in the series and although the graphics were great you'll see a big difference between 4 & 5. I found the characters pretty annoying too which will vary from person to person but I'd personally recommend skipping 4 and jumping straight into GTA 5, great game and stunning with the graphic settings turned up. I got a 980ti too and have just started to reinstall Skyrim with a load of mods and can't wait to get time to play through it, that game is amazing when modded.

I'd recommend Dota 2.

Think of an RPG, except you reach max level and max gear in about 50 minutes and then you start all over again.
