Which one would be best for pure gaming and little else. Ive narrowed it down to these two:

Samsung SM-970P
Viewsonic VX922 19

Ive got two weeks till i got to make my mind up so im in no hurry but if its the cheapest monitor out the two i think ill be able to get it before oblivion comes through the post :p

Why those two? And what is your intended use for the monitor?

I personally think the VX922 is overpriced for what it offers, the Samsung SM930BF seems to do all the same stuff but for a lot cheaper. The difference between 2 and 4 ms is reported to be negligible. The SM970P isn't reckoned to be fast enough for gaming. It all depends what you're buying it for but the Viewsonic VP930 would seem to be a better option, very similar to SM970P, but quicker. Can be found for a similar price too.

Seems odd that you've come up with one TN Film screen and one PVA, their strengths and weakness seem quite a lot different.

bakes, didn;'t we cover this exact same conversation before here!? The 970P and VX922 are very different screens. Purely for gaming the 970P is not the best in the market, and you would be much better looking at either the VX922, or Samsung's similar model (that fish99 mentions above), the 930BF.

Have you considered widescreen? I'd be very surprised if Oblivion didn't support widescreen resolutions. The NEC LCD20WGX2 and Philips 200W6CS are very popular at the moment. Those are 20". If you don't want widescreen then I'd say the VP930 is the best of the 19" screens all things considered, although it's not the quickest.

Only thing with those 20" widescreens is the native resolutions are quite high (1680*1050), and that could be a problem in an extremely demanding game like Oblivion, unless you have some ooper-sooper-dooper PC.

cheers for the replys and badass i just wanted to make sure just double check :p

This leads me to my final question is the VX922 worth the extra £30-£40 quid over the SM-930BF. Could i notice any difference between the two in games, it doesnt matter even if its only a small differnence i would probably notice it.

I think i know the answer ill get and im best off with the vx922 am i right :)

i really doubt you would be able to tell any difference in real terms between the VX922 (or VX924 for that matter) and the 930BF.

cheers for all the replys ive just this minute ordered the VX922 and i cant wait to test out my games on it. Ive already stacked the games that i want to test:
Rometotalwar
quake4
fear
hl2&css
farcry
bfme2

Ill expect it will come monday or tuesday but thats cool cause it will come before Oblivion which is out friday :D

wow badass u can really see the difference with my new monitor its great im so happy. :)

I think am gonna go with the VSonic VX924 @ £255.

I've gone for that over the Samsung SM-930BF @ £240 becuase of such a nasty review from Xbit, i just couldn't trust the screen after that.

But last night the widscreen TFT's were catching my eye:

Acer AL1916W 19 @ £175

Dell Ultrasharp 2005FPW @ £315

So because of these two wide options, am no closer to selecting.

The VX924 will be the one if i go 4:3, but i'm really tempted with going wide, just need to figure which one is better at those prices.
