Hi Guys,

I'm just about to place an order for a new system. I'm pretty much decided on the parts, just need to add on a monitor. My current full setup is a 7 year old or so OcUK order including a Viewsonic 19".

Current thoughts are on moving to...

Asus Z97-K - Devils Canyon Core i5 4690K Bundle
Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel
KFA2 GeForce GTX 970 OC Silent "Infin8 Black Edition" 4096MB

I have a budget left of up to £200 to get a 23"/24" monitor that compliments this setup, but I've been out of the PC gaming arena for so long I've no idea lol.

A friends suggested AOC for a nice price / quality mix. G-Sync is out of my range. Is a 144Hz the way to go or standard? If I went 144Hz would I have any problems? I read a few reviews of people saying they can only get 60Hz etc.

Thanks in advance. Sincerely appreciate any help you can offer.

If you play games then a 144Hz monitor is a nice thing to have.

AOC have two 144Hz 24" screens listed here (not including Gsync) and the more expensive one has a fully adjustable stand along with a USB hub.

You will have no issues using it with your GTX970, just make sure the refresh rate is correct in the Nvidia driver for it and use the supplied dual link DVI cable or Displayport cable.

Apart from that just check in game settings as I know that in some that I play you have to make sure 144Hz is also selected in the graphic settings.

If anything I'd go for a 290x instead of the 970 and for the LG 29UM67. Otherwise, if you just want a 24'' 144hz monitor then the LG 24GM-77 is the best one. Though I would say that you shouldn't underrate the benefits of Gsync. Cut corners where you can, shop around, but the AOC 24'' with Gsync is the best 24'' you can get.

Thanks guys appreciate the input. Many thanks for the detailed info on the 144Hz setup stulid.

I do like the sound of the G-Sync AOC, but that price tag is beyond my reach.

I might go with my current order, and come back to the AOC with G-Sync next pay check. If I do, is the AOC the best to go for in that range. Stretching to £300 would be the max. I wondn't want to spend any more than that after saving to get to it.

Is there anything that comes under that, thats worth taking a look at?

I can personally vouch for the AOC G2460PQU 144hz monitor, i have two of them and they are pretty damn good for the price in my opinion.
