Right then, I've not upgraded my system for around 5 years, and I'm still using my DFI Lanparty & Opty CPU... Used to be well into the OC scene, what with my Prometia & watercooling setup, but girlfriend, cars & house made that come to an end :(

Now, I USE Photoshop, Illustrator a lot, and also like to encode DVD's and other Visual work.... I would also like to play the ODD game, but that's not important for now, as i have a PS3.

Likes / Dislikes / Notes

I bought a new PSU last year, I remember it being a goo done and it costing me around £60, and unsure if it's compatible with the new boards, etc...

- Must be AMD - Always have been an AMD Fanboy
- Must have at least 4gb RAM
- Hard Drive size isn't important - 500gb would be fine, as long as it's FAST. Already got a 1tb External drive, so main drive would be for applications, and other bits.
- Graphics card mainly for screen quality, pref ATI, as i've always liked ATI compared to Nvidea - Would also like to play the ODD new game as above.

I'd planned to spend about £500, but i'm open to be honest, as i'll be sticking a 22-24" monitor on top (Don't tell the Mrs)

Anyway, if anyone could help with my choices and / or create me a small shopping list, i would very much appreciate it.

Thanks all,
Deano (Formerly C0oL)

@ siumatfung: Not sure mate, but if it turns out to be rubbish, then i'd have to get one...

@ Memory: Sorry, not been on OcUK for a LONG time, even forgot my old account details! This "Spec me" sounds like i should format my post differently...

So Sorry, Should have also said i already got KB, Mouse, Lian-Li Alu Case, DVD-R/W and i would prefer AMD...

I remember it being something like an OCZ or Antec, and it will have been at least 450w knowing how my current system was overclocked and Phase Changed.. :)

Is there much diference in the DDR2 & DDR3? I'd like to load it with as much RAM as possible, but obviously there's a big price difference...

Dean

just buy another 4Gb and run 8Gb of RAM?
if you want to go beyind your looking at i7's with like 12Gb of RAM lol
you may be able to run 16Gb of RAM on thta mobo if you can find 4Gb Modules

having a look on the site you can buy 8Gb and 16Gb kits but i dont thinkthey show value in terms of price

all the 8Gb kits are more expensive than buying 2 of the kits in the spec above

Right, all this DDR3 stuff.... I take it the Tri-Channel works best with 3 sticks of RAM, and not 2 like the dual channel? If so, then 6gb (3x2gb) seems the best option for lots of memory and good speeds, yes?

I Also see that there is 10600 / 12800 / 14400 & 16000 speeds.... Does the AMD Boards & CPU Suport all these speeds?

Many thanks for your help so far,
Dean
