Hi, just a quick question for everyone, to hopefully save me some time.

My brothers Sapphire ATI 4870, has just popped, can someone tell me what an equivalent to this would be, in todays market of gpu's?

I have had a look and many dont seem to have the same sort of streaming process as his, nor do they have GDDR5... But many have larger memory and features that surpass his.

A little advice would be good,

Thanks in advance.

Edit: As cheap as possible, but with similar capability.

No Problem :)

On the streaming process, the 4### are old cards, more is not better; old vs new, today you can have a lot less and still get the same performance.

I'm thinking the 7770 is the best one to go for, it will be just a little faster than the 4870. :)

But if he does want to upgrade a 7850 is a very solid GPU for its money.

Yes, this is what i had wondered, i knew that for the time, they were great cards... pretty much top of the line. But we all know how quickly things become out dated.

So that in itself has answered my overall question (Is more better?) i had looked at even the lower end cards and had wondered if they would suffice.

But i'll put him on to the 7750 and see what he thinks about price, ifs he's happy and wants to spend a little more then i'll mention the 7850. He was looking at 4870's on ebay and I just said, NO. They will all most likely be in a similar condition to his, just before it went pop. and for similar money he could get something newer and better.

Thanks =)
