Hey there,

Im currently ordering a new PC and have the chance to get an 2900XT 1gb for around the same price as an 8800GTS 640mb. Ive heard a lot of things about the GTS and was wondering how the 2900XT is (Driver wise etc) I hope im not starting a war, I just wondered which would be the best in terms of drivers etc in that price range.

Having said that the 2900XT 1gb wins in some games over the GTS!

Im tempted by a 2900 for 215 but someone as advised I miss it.

I would get the 2900 in your situation, seeing a lot of better benchmarks for it, espically with the newer drivers, plus it's 512-bit bus is wonderful if you overclock.
That's the way i look at it, and i have a GTS ;)

If you can get a 1GB XT that cheap then you must be able to get a 512MB one for much less, if so then I would get one of those since developers seem to be giving up on using antialiasing in games anymore.

The GTS wins in more games then ATIs offering...
I have noticed you have an ATI card already though so it maybe the better option for you. It'd mean you wouldn't have to get used to new drivers etc, you could use it like a pro straight out the box :p

That being said though, ATI have screwed up AA on their new cards.
Only games that support shader based AA actually benefit from it otherwise you get really messy IQ...

If you can get the 1gb 2900 XT for the same price as the 640mb GTS then its a no brainer, 2900 all the way, its faster than the 640mb GTS now thanks to ATi's superior driver support, a lot of games its up and over 20fps faster, and it will only get better seen as it gets new drivers every month. :)

Only thing to take into consideration is the amount of power it needs, the heat it gives off, and the loud fan (so some say), but if they aint a concern then id go for it.

I would get the 512 model not much in it tbh 5-10 fps and sounds like you got the hook up with prices. Also i have found the 2900 to be faster than the GTS now in most case's in reviews ones of late. But again not much in it but the driver support of the ati i think will keep it ahead of the 8800 gts now.But dont get fooled into thinking by some reviews that its close to GTX cause its not.

Would a 600 watt OCZ PSU cut it?
