Outdoor networking

Need to get an office at bottom of parents garden networked. Already has electric but need internet and phone. Its about 50m from the house and direct site so was thinking of running wireless and if struggling for signal use an omni-directional aerial. But dunno if cordless phone would have the range. Ideally id like to run it wired but can you get network and phone cable designed for outdoor use or is there a sheath you can buy that can will protect it?

fibre is the correct way of doing it, but expensive; you could however run a cat5 cable in some conduit and put some lighting surge suppressors at each end attached to an earth.

Thats what i thought - just use a couple of belkin surge protectors on each end
