Outdoor security camera (without internet)?

I'm looking for a security camera for the external wall on a property. There is no internet/cellular connection there, so I'd need local storage. From research I've seen cameras that record to internal sd cards, but those would be useless if the whole camera is stolen.

Can anyone recommend cameras that record to a storage device which I can keep inside the property? Or suggestions on what I should be looking for?

Costs will go up a fair bit if you need to record locally to another device.

You've raised the point about recording to internal memory being useless if the camera is stolen - does that mean it's being installed lower to the ground/reachable? If so are you not just as concerned about the camera being damaged - even if it was recording footage to another local device, or uploading to the cloud.

If you can put the camera out of reach then internal memory won't be too much of a concern - just a faff if you need to go and retrieve it.

You could get a cheap Synology NAS. I think you can add two cameras to Security Station before you need to pay licenses? I got a couple of Reolink cameras on Amazon for about £70.

You can have a security camera solution without internet, i.e. record to an NVR instead, see this from Reolink:

Other thoughts:

Could you physically secure the camera, e.g. with a metal grid box around it, so you could use an SD card camera?

Depending on budget, you could get Starlink to have internet.

There's a list of security camera manufacturer websites here to help with your research.

Thanks for the replies, I'll research more into this. I'm not able to put the camera out of reach as I only have access to the outside wall which can be reached. Someone in the neighbouring property has been criminally damaging the front of my property and I've no doubt that it will continue, and that they will attempt to take the security camera down. I think a metal grid would be too vulnerable.

If the camera catches them once it could be enough but the data storage needs to be inaccessible to them. The camera only needs to cover 3 meters of area in front of the building.

As mentioned internet/cellular isn't possible right now and starlink isn't feasible. I've not heard of synology NAS, I will look into this too.

Reolink can record to SD and then backup to cloud

Anything with a DVR should suit your needs from what you say. If no signal or internet, things like a NAS etc. would need you to setup a basic internal network (which doesn't have to be much much to meet the requirements). Most of the dedicated DVRs would probably need some sort of network to be able to get videos off anyway! Cameras with power-over-ethernet direct from the DVR would reduce cabling needs whilst still giving a nice, rock solid connection.

I’d recommend power over Ethernet for the cameras. QVRPro running on a Qnap NAS is excellent and free for two cameras.
