Outhouse conversion

It's certainly possible to do but I'm not sure if there's a DIY product. I has a desk made by a carpenter friend and it was MDF but he sent it off to be veneered. Looked like it was made of a decent wood. Not sure who does it or what the cost is though.

Out of interest mate, why are you boarding around those metal sockets as opposed to replacing them with a dryline box and normal socket?

Yeah thats what i looked at cos the MDF is strong and nice to work with but the finish for a desk is not as nice. Might have a little look into that though mate. Cheers

Purely to keep the cost down buddy. The sockets i dont think look to bad? Or is that just me? I had a budget of about £120 this month and so far im sitting roughly £200 haha. All little extras like screws, wall plugs, new stanley blades, tape, 30m internet cable, router etc.

I plan on buying MDPE tubing to protect the cables outside and run it around the outside of the house but for now itll just be connected through the house for now till next friday when i get paid and more funds are released from the bank of wife haha

Standard white sockets (and even nicer chrome ones etc) and dryline boxes are super cheap (use screwfix not B&Q), would look a bit better to have nice normal sockets there i thought :)

No doubt mate easily changed though. Im wondering whether i attach the extension socket to the plaster board or do i attach it under the desk hidden away....i think hide it away..

Looking forward to the setup tomorrow and going back to dual monitors. Even though they are old as hell. Definately one of my first upgrades is two new shinny monitors.

MDF may be easy to work with but try hard not to breathe in the dust. Current theory is that it's not much better than asbestos. They won't cut it to size in some places for that reason. Wear a mask at least!

Jesus...thanks for the heads up...might avoid that one then.

Small update for y'all. So today was D day for installation and I forgot I had my dog booked in for a appointment at the groomers. Raced her down there, got back and typically missed my delivery of the 30m cable. So it's getting picked up in the morning from the post office. So tomorrow while the misses is at work i'll be able to tinker away in the man cave getting set up for a gaming day with my mate in there on Sunday.

Little list of stuff I still want to complete in there in no particular order.
1) Coving - Some sort of cover between plasterboard and ceiling.
2) Plaster the full outhouse once it's all been boarded out.
3) Plasterboard over the concrete ceiling (dib dab the boards on and use plasterboard.
4) Lighting - some sort of spots or LED lighting
5) Level off concrete flooring near doorway
6) Some sort of grill to cover the drain cover
7) Flooring throughout
8) custom build desk
9) custom built shelves etc in the storage area for kids bikes, scooters, tools etc.
10) Plenty of gadgets added to make complete man cave.
11) Full size tower (currently using Cosair 250D)
12) New Gfx card
13) Webcam for streaming my games
15) Some sort of video software / hardware for uploading of videos.
16) Blind / Curtain for sun glare and also for people looking in.
17) Possible upgrade on alarm in there, maybe even separate alarm system as currently its tied in with the house alarm, which when movement inside there it sounds on the panel. Which is sort of handy I guess...

Pretty comprehensive list once I started thinking about it.....haha.

Overall I think it's coming along nicely. Get paid next Friday so depending on cash flow possibly tick a few more of those of the list. :)

4. LEDs! GU10s give off a lot of heat so you'll bake - on the plus side, heating may not be necessary - and you'll be forever changing the things. Decent 50W equivalent LED GU10s are nearly a tenner bit you basically never have to change them, they don't give off much heat and you can justify (to your wife) leaving them on because how're you supposed to save energy with them if you've switched them off?! ;)

Haha might be handy then a little bit of heat. I was gunna set up the cave today and then tonight when the misses is out sit in peace and enjoy the experience but its bloody freezing out and I cant find where the heater is packed away lol.

Beer coat? :D
Overclock for more heat output?

Haha like your thinking. This PC currently is not OC either and I bought it to do it, just never got around to it because at first it was in the TV stand and now in the small desk. So air flow was never ideal. Now it's going into the out house it's very tempting but I'm quite nooby on that sort of thing so don't want to break anything? :D

Having a little trouble with this new router at the moment. I'm currently connected via it but that is without turning of the DCHP and it seems to work fine. When I switched of the DCHP it wouldnt work at all and I had to factory reset the router. I suppose the real test is moving everything and seeing if I still get a connection

Small update:

We have moved into the man cave. Still some tinkering to do with wiring and internet cable needs routed in properly but internet works, wifi is on. We are ready to rock and roll..

Hey folks!

So today it my last day of holidays before I have to go back to work. After some thought and decision making I decided just to run the cable as it is rather than with MDPE as most people seem to do this and its been fine.

So here is my handy cable work which means no more running cable through the house whenever I want to use the PC. Yay!

If you're suspended like that, you'll be fine. You can get external grade cat5 cable which has a tougher sheath on it. I think partly it's more weather resistant but also it's more UV resistant - don't think you'll have any problems with it though as long as it can't blow in the wind.

What you might want to do though is make sure the cable runs upwards to the hole where it goes through each wall. The reason being that rain settles on the cable and then runs down it and through the hole. Might then get your insulation/wood/wall/carpet wet. A spot of silicon sealant doesn't go amiss either.

Yeah thats the plan for Thursday as i need to do the bathroom too. Will take that advice in board mate. Thank you

Small Update:

Second monitor has arrived. Plan is to get the main one upgraded to match as and when funds come available. Old desk went into my sons room but he didn't want the stand so I thought I'd make use of it for the speakers for now.
