Hello,

I have a friend who has trouble setting up his outlook.
He wants 4 separate inboxes, outboxes, sent items, etc... 1 For each email acc...

This is standard in 2007 and 2010 and windows mail, however he has xp and 2k3...

I've tried many things, the only thing that succeeded was make custom folders and rules to move emails. I've tried creating new email profiles but all accounts went into 1 profile.

He has 3 pop3 and 1 imap accs, the imap acc has its own separate folder by default, but I cannot for life make the pop3 acc's go into separate folders except by making folders and rules, rather than the proper way...

Any ideas how to set it up properly so it looks like in outlook 2k7/2k10 with proper in and outboxes etc per acc. withotu having to use custom rules ?

Even with the rules set up properly, the sent items from the imap acc. go into the personal items ''sent items'' folder rather than under the acc, the inbox works like it should oddly.

Have you tried setting up different data files for each account. So they aren't combined in to the same one. I will try and get my hands on someone with Office 2003 and give it a whirl.

I tried that ( was trying to explain that but I failed I guess), I can't select different data files for each acc, if I select a data file ALL accounts will use that :(.

Might just show him Thunderbird as I know that can be setup as I want, but that has also been a while.

It is possible as I have been doing it in 2003, 2007 and 2010.
I don't tend to create profiles within Outlook, I use the Mail icon in Control Panel.

Open the Mail control panel applet (which only appears in Control Panel when Outlook has been opened for the first time after installation) - create one profile for each account, pointing to its own data file.
Then choose the "Prompt for a profile to be used" option. The next time you open Outlook, you will get a drop down list to choose which account you wish to open.

Only thing with this method is - you only see the inbox / data file for the profile / account you chose from the drop down list. Does your friend want to see all accounts at the same time?
