Outlook 2003 launch puzzle.

I have an Outlook 2003 puzzle which I am hoping someone can shed some light on. Firstly when I open Outlook the first email seem to take some time to open - not the end of the world I know but puzzling all the same. Secondly - links. If I try to open a web page link from an email what happens is this - IE7 starts to open and then just as quickly shuts down again, it doesn't matter how many times I try the result is always the same. The funny thing is that this only happens if I try to open a link when I have launched Outlook as a stand alone programme. If I open Outlook from within IE7 then click on an email web page link the web page launches without a hitch - I am using Vista by the way and this only seem to be a recent phenomenon.
