Outlook 2007 archive

I've just started using the archive function on outlook 2007. i started with a 2gb .pst file, and after archiving which has created a new 'archive.pst' file which is 1.7gb, the original .pst is still 2gb.

when i open up outlook i now have 2 folders, 'personal folders' and 'archive folders' and all the old emails have moved from the personal to archive folder.

Is there a reason why my original .pst is still 2gb? i was under the impression that archiving reduced the size of this file.

You need to compact the file after deleting stuff. There should be an option when right-clicking on a mail folder in Outlook. Give me a few minutes while I get in front of Outlook.
