Outlook 2007. Horrifically slow.

Evening guys

My dad's using outlook 2007 to access his hotmail account (very nice 2 month old vaio sz laptop), and not only is it spectacularly slower than my ancient desktop to access a similar inbox with the same software (upwards of 3 minutes), but he can access a remote desktop (at his office in london) in about ten seconds.

Suffice to say he's ****ed. And i'm a noob when it comes to dealing with the mediocrity of microsoft software. If anymore details are needed i can provide. But i wouldn't know what to give.

Any solutions?

Ah I think we are all used to the mediocrity by now :)

I found office 2007 in general a lot slower than 2003, its certainly a more bloated product and my machine is high spec as well.

Outlook 2007 is definitely slower that 2003.

On Vista, 2003 is terribly slow (I notice it especially through IMAP - and it crashes).
 
in the same boat as you....
have installed outlook 2007 and find it very slow compared to earlier versions.
i thought it might've been because i use mailwasher pro before it but no its just microsofts software.
 
I can understand bloated software being to blame, but outlook express runs far quicker and more efficiently on one of my old machines..

The reason he's quite so ****ed is because he accesses his work email remotely from his laptop through a server in his office in london. Without knowing the name of the client, basically it loads a virtual xp desktop through firefox / ie which he can then access outlook 2003 from. This takes a matter of seconds to load and access his emails.

Is there any way of either reverting back to outlook express whilst having office 2007 on his laptop or speeding up outlook 2007?
 
Sure you could ask Mr Gates very nicely for the source code for Outlook 2007 and then rewrite it so it's not a sow bloated POS :rolleyes:

Seriously though there isn't much info to go on here. What protocol is he using to access his email via Outlook? POP3? IMAP? Exchange? Is there a large amount of messages in his Inbox?
 
i find it quite fast to open Outlook 2007 (me and dad using Office 2007 Pro SP1) - seem it much quicker and at my work using Outlook 2003 that really so slow.
