Outlook 2k3 gurus pls

If I minimise Outlook a little Icon appears in the toolbar tray bottom right by the clock, which is dandy.

However, it also sits in the tray bar too in which case I deem the icon unecessary.

How can I remove the tool bar part but leave the icon?

if you right click the system tray icon, you can select Hide when Minimized. That hides the taskbar part.
