Afternoon guys,

Ive recently got a new computer and would like to transfer *everything* from my current outlook installation to the new one on my new computer. What is the best way to go about doing this as i cant seem to find any explecit information on how to make sure everything iscopied across. I realise i will have to copy everything onto an external drive to move it across but dont know all the files i will need to copy!

Id be very greatful if anyone could shed some light on this!

Thanks!

outlook 2007. I was under the impression it was far more complicated than that to move everything!

You should have a .pst file on your computer, can't remember where it resides, but just do a search for the file, think it's called outlook.pst, but a search for *.pst should find it.

Copy that onto a pen drive or similar, then when you have installed the software on the new PC, look where the .pst file is on the new pc and replace it with the one from the pen drive and your done.

Hope that helps

Taff

Yes, calendar items are copied too. Just make sure you test it before deleting the original.
I don't think rules are saved in the PST though, you may want to export those separately first to a *.rwz file (Tools > Rules and Alerts > Email Rules > Options > Export Rules) and import them again afterwards.

You'll also need to enter your email account details again, so make sure you have those handy...

I found a free application called "Amic Email Backup" which does this for me.

I use Outlook 2003 and my gf uses Outlook Express. I was able to backup all the account settings, mail folders, rules, address book and sigs then transfer them to a new machine.

I managed to get version 2.0 which is free, but I believe the latest version isn't free anymore.
