I have Windows XP which I use with Outlook express for email and I like it. I notice from reading other posts that Windows mail has been removed for Win7.

Can I still migrate all my contacts and old emails that I need to keep into Win7 and how do I go about it?

I was in a similar boat although I have a Office 2007 so I put Outlook onto Win 7. I saved a copy of my Outlook Express address book (wab.exe) and now cannot extract the thing.

After a while on the internet it would seem (unless you want to pay for a programme) there is no way of extracting a wab and you have to export out of Outlook Express as a different file, comma separated seems to be the easiest. This file can then be imported into whatever mail file you choose.

As for your e mails I cannot comment.

Pretty simple to migrate.

Don't 'save' wab.exe as that isn't the Outlook Express address book.

xxxxx.wab is the list of contacts and that file is simply imported into the newer client. Contacts, messages and accounts can be imported from Outlook Express 6 into the new Live mail in Windows 7.

Thanks for that I think I've found the file on mine its danny.wab in the adress book folder.

For the messages do you do this the same way as before and go into the outlook express identity and import the DBX files for each folder?

Yep, that is the way I do it. I also kept a copy of the storage folder from my previous XP install which I pointed the import routine at. For the accounts, I export those to a .iaf file and import them into mail.

Thanks again, I will keep my xp install as is, until I can correctly get my emails transfered over. I will give that a go when I do my install next week :)

Cheers.
