Quick question, I'm SURE this can be done but haven't used Outlook Express for years.

Got a client who is using Outlook Express and has a Hotmail account.

What he wants to do is to send an email out, but doesn't want his hotmail account details showing, instead he wants it to read something along the lines of from info@[dummydomain].co.uk

People CAN reply to the info@[dummydomain].co.uk as there is a forward on that domain to his hotmail.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that you can change the 'from' email address to read anything you want.

Is this true, and how can it be done?

Cheers.

Yes it is true.

In Outlook Express click Tools>Accounts then select the account you want to alter.
Look in the General tab and add the address you want to recieve message back into the Reply Address box. You can also change the Email Address box to match so that the original email address is masked from the recipient.

Cheers mate,

I think I've done that, but the problem is the client has tried emailing me and when it hits my Outlook it's saying the from email address as his Hotmail address but when I reply sure enough the reply email address automatically fills in with the one we want.

Outlook sees the real email address the mail was sent from or it uses the 'Name' box.
What is set in the 'Name' box in Outlook Express on the original machine?

Ahhhh, well that maybe ok.

Well I can't reveal the clients real email for obvious reasons, but as an example:

He's got a Hotmail account called [email protected]
He also has a domain with mail forwarding setup on www.bobsweb.co.uk

We've set up web forwarding with a catchall and an info to ####@bobsweb.co.uk to goto [email protected]

All working fine there.

But he wants to be able to send an email from Outlook Express to one of his customers, which when his customer gets it will say "From: [email protected]" even though behind the scenes it's been sent from Hotmail.

So providing none of his clients use Outlook, it should be ok?

Find my email address from trust and I'll send you a few emails with altered details which you can collect via Outlook and see what happens.
