outlook express or similar

Soory for the daft question but am setting up email on my laptop is outlook express still the thing to have or is their something better ?

I'm using windows live mail with windows 7, but there's also thunderbird mozilla which is very similar to OE and you can import old email into it, as you can with windows live mail too.
