Hi all,

I'm trying to help my Mum back up email from her Mac. She want an external copy of her Outlook accounts. She has a work email address, her hotmail account and another old pop3 account.

Am I right in thinking the Export option is the only way to do this within Outlook for Mac? As I understand it, his will export all of Outlook to an OLM file, not specific email accounts within Outlook.

Once exported, will the email remain within Outlook? She does want to retain it on the current machine.

Assistance greatly appreciated as I have no experience with Macs.

Unless the email provider(s) offer another method of exporting or backing up mail, then Outlook or another email client (Apple Mail, Thunderbird etc) is the usual go-to.

And the export option in Outlook will, by default, export all data including calendars, contacts etc. If you only want selected emails then you can assign them manually to a category and then export that category.

Exactly that as it essentially takes a copy of data (at the point of export) and throws it in a OLM archive.

It's also worth mentioning that the export function in Outlook isn't particular fast and can take a while and it'll also stop you using Outlook whilst it's running, so worth doing late at night/when not needing it etc.
