Evening all.

I'm trying to setup an IMAP connection to my mail server (running Ability Mail Server Pro 2). This account will be the account to replace all accounts so it will be the only one set up in outlook
My problem is that Outlook wants me to set up a personal folders file to store contacts, calender and things like 'Deleted Items', 'Outbox' etc.
I know that if I implemented an exchange like setup everything would be fine, but that costs money. Is there anything I can do to emulate MS Exchange? Contacts and Calender don't need to be held on the server.

Any suggestions appreciated.
Cheers.

You are right, outlook does require a .pst to hold the other infomation that cannot be stored on the imap server. Surely if its only 1 pc you are using this is not a problem though? How about some sort of webmail?
Personally I do use exchange (evaluation version ;) ) so i can have full functionality from whatever pc i use to check my mail.

If it was only 1 PC then quite right, I'd just have a POP3 connection to the server and have a standard personal folders file to store everything in. However, I've got a PC, a Laptop and a PDA :p
How does exchange server work? Is it an OS or an App. The reason I ask is that my server is also going to host a couple of small websites for me :p

Cheers :)

If anyone else is interested in my little problem, I've found some open source software called Zimbra. Unfortunately its linux based :p
I'm going to set up an ubuntu server on a virtual machine. Will try and remember to post my results :p

Update: The free version of Zimbra is a pile of poo poo. Now trying CommuniGate Pro. This server has a MAPI extension so hopefully I should be able to copy Live Mail Plus (whatever it is that gives you access to all your hotmail stuff through outlook).

Update 2: CommuniGate Pro (free for non-commercial use) did the job fine. Its got a load of extra features. It appears as though it could be wedged into a telephone system  Anyway, useless stuff disabled and one very happy chappy!
