outlook live and hotmail / Exchange settings

I did a search but could not find anything relevant on here. I was setting up the missus android phone recently to properly sync contacts, calendar etc through her live.co.uk account.

Anyway to cut a long story short, its *hard to find working settings* but it IS available.

server: col-m.hotmail.com

works for hotmail.com/live.com etc addresses.

It has so many advantages over POP3, and not many seem to know this little trick. Get yourselves properly set up now

Nice tip.

POP3 should just die a death, I refused to use it and go without my hotmail.com email on phone as a result.

Will give this a try.

Does it support SSL ports?

Hotmail doesn't support IMAP, it uses Exchange Active Sync which has been available for nearly 2 years now. You only need to use m.hotmail.com when entering the server settings, think it enters the col-m itself.

Exchange Activesync is not widely well supported and any way to use Hotmail with straight up IMAP is welcomed.

it's not the best forum to post android tips in. surely it would be better in the phone section, not windows....

Basic Exchange Activesync is well supported (SEE HERE). Hotmail DOES NOT support IMAP. There are reports that Outlook.com is going to add IMAP support but I doubt it will be anytime soon.

I thought about it long and hard, but its specific to Microsoft Exchange not android, so I put it on here.

Anyway with regards to m.hotmail.com, it doesnt work for me but col-m.hotmail.com does

Point is, don't settle for pop3, in this day and age its totally ****.
