Yesterday Oulook 2003 stopped accepting my yahoo password.

[edited with more information]

Basically the outgoing mail server (SMTP) is not accepting my Yahoo password, and is failing to connect.

I can receive emails alright, but i cannot send what so ever. I'm currently using plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com as my server and have tried smtp.mail.yahoo.com also.

I've also changed the Outgoing Server from 465 (with SSL) to 587 and 25 without. This has still not worked?!?!?!

I find this wierd considering it's been working fine for the past year or so.

Very, very annoying!

I've cleared my profile and also changed passwords a couple of times..

... It's working now...

Now i have roughly 1000 emails to archive and sort out now. GREAT FUN!!! :(

Wait.. i take that back. I can receive mail alright but whenever i try to send mail, i'm greeted with the username / password box?

'plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com' is what i have as the server. I remember this being slightly different than before. I think i simply had smtp.mail.yahoo before but according to Yahoo, the 'plus' should be there?

Yep, mines was set the same as yours previously, and then all of a sudden, i've been failing to connect...

Ok, after a reinstall and also testing out my other Yahoo account, the same happens.

Unfortunately i do not have another pc to test this with. I have no idea why this is happening.

I'm assuming that the SMTP server requires authentication.

It's worth a look at the settings. I don't use Outlook Express (I use Outlook full) but in there, there is an option (tick box) that says 'My outgoing server requires authentication' tick that and give it a go.

The setting is usually found where you enter the mail servers under advanced.

I have to enable authentication on my outgoing mail server to download my mail from yahoo. I'm using the mail.btinternet.com server but it routes back to yahoo so you may need to do as m4cc45 said above and enable outgoing authenticaiton. It uses the same credentials as the incoming mail server for me.

m4cc45 - I don't look Outlook Express either :-P

Again, this has been working for years, and i've manually configured Outlook 03 plenty of times to work with Yahoo and various other, so i can guarantee it's not a setting which is at fault.

There's something underlying here, because this is happening with both yahoo email accounts now, and Outlook doesn't manually change it's settings by itself... or does it??????????????? :)

Outlook won't change it's settings.

However Yahoo might well do. Have a look at what I suggested above and give it a try. You never know it could work. :D

Hah, okay mine decided to stop sending messages now as well but modified the smtp server to read plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com and it works again.

Twas the same problem as the OP, wouldn't accept password. Thanks Chiz, would have probably been shouting at my computer all day had you not posted this.

It was Yahoo after all. For some reason i had to change to the smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk when previously this didn't work at all. Also had to change ports.

All i needed was a kick in the right direction so m4cc45.. Thanks a lot man!!!!

Problem after problem now.

Can't send. Receiving multiple emails... (0x800CCC0F & 0x800CCC90)

After a little bit of research.. i think i have to subscribe to Yahoo Plus to get outlook working correctly.

Can anyone else back this up? or is there any standard yahoo users successfully using Outlook?

can you put forwards on your mails?

just make a gmail account and forward all mails to that.. gmail is awesome, and works perfectly with pop3
