I need a quick bit of assistance.

Am going on leave from work tomorow and need to have all my emails forwarded to my home email address. Sounds easier than it is.

Have set up a rule so that all emails are forwarded on to my home address, BUT, I need to be able to add permanent text (internet-authorised:) into the subject line, or the email server in work wont let it out onto the tinty web.

Anyone got a clue how i can do this please?????

Thanks very

Paul

Hi,

Any idea what sort of server your mail runs on? Is it a UNIX-based IMAP/POP server or is it a Windows Exchange-based server? The general approach for both is to create vacation filters on the server side but the implementation varies depending on the server involved and what it uses for filtering. Also Exchange has an "Out of Office Assistant" precisely for these instances.

Although if he's leaving work for good, they SHOULD either disable his account or set a forwarding to another mailbox so it rules/out of officer won't work anyway.

Sorry, I read "going on leave" as going on holiday, as opposed to permanently leaving his employer.

M0KUJ1N got it right. Am off on holiday (we call it leave) for 3 weeks.

We run an Exchange server on board the ship, but all emails are passed toa shore based server. Without the correct release statment in the subject line, the Internet Gateway Service will not allow the message to pass.

Have set up the out of office assistant so as to forward my emails as an attachment, but I cant seem to get it that the correct phrase is in the subject line for each new message.

Thinking about it, in a crazy latteral way, i need to find out where the 're' that is put into forwarded messages is held, and then edit that so that it enters 'internet-authorised'

Any more ideas peeps?

I think you need to speak to your Exchange Administrator and ask them to do the forwarding on the server.

It may be that your organisation doesn't allow you to forward e-mails to another, external address. This is a wise policy. If they wanted you to have external access to your e-mail they would provide you with Outlook Web Access so that you could access your account through a standard web browser.

And just as I read your profile I noticed that you are an officer of the Royal Navy. You shouldn't be forwarding e-mails relating to defence to external e-mail addresses.
