I have a relatively budget turntable system. A Rega RP1 deck with an elderly Pro-ject SE phono stage (has just died) to some Behringer powered speakers.
I have invested in an Edwards Audio Apprentice MM phono stage to replace the Pro-ject one and I have a query on cabling. Previously I used splitters on the phono stage output so that the signal could go to either the speaker amplifier input or the line input on my computer motherboard.

Is the above problematic for the sound or the hardware? A very noobish question I know. I do not have a deal of money to spend on this and I do not wish to create issues. I think that it was just age with the SE (or the power supply which also died) and the system worked as described for a long time over several turntables. Ideally I should look for a small amplifier and unpowered speakers for the best of all world's however the sound previously obtained was quite good from my 50 year old albums.

Any thoughts?

A couple of reasons that could cause problems:
  • The two inputs will appear in parallel, presenting a lower total impedance to the source. This is unlikely to be a problem with any modern audio equipment.
  • More opportunity to pick up noise. It's probably fine as long as the cables are well shielded and not too long.
