Does anyone know of a device that would allow me to connect two different output sources two a single output socket on my soundcard that will allow me to alternate between the two different outputs?

A mate has what your thinking about, its a switch that sits on his desk to switch between speakers and headphones.

He got it from a competitor so i can say where he got it from.

edit: its called a its called a Plantronics Audio PC Switch .... google it its worth a look.

here are the pics

as you can see from the back it has two green headphone sockets, it only cost something like £8
